State XC Finals - Boys Varsity

MVHS Boys finish 15th in State, first among their SCVAL competitors! Annotation from Coach Bordoni: "The boys ran first, at 11:15 am, when conditions were pretty much ideal: temps in the 50s, no wind, and the disappearing morning tule fog keeping the dust levels low. I had a feeling all week long, which was solidified at the boys team meeting the night before, that they were anxious to tie up some loose ends left over from a brilliant CCS performance that got them to State in the first place. Despite finishing 3rd in the CCS D2 race, they knew they had more in them."

  • My oldest son mentioned to me after the race that he liked the way the Mountain View guys conducted themselves at the starting line and before the race: looking cool, calm, and full of confidence; he said other teams looked like “deer in the headlights”. Our guys looked like guys on a mission, and job one was letting the other CCS teams know we were not sitting on our CCS D2 3rd place laurels.

  • Leading the way in the “cool, calm, and confident” department was of course our very own Freeze Pop, Aubrey Myjer, and all but two of his D2 competitors had no idea what was about to hit them. Again employing brilliant race tactics, Aubrey played it cool in the first mile, staying back from the frenzy up front but keeping in contact with the chase pack that was trying to keep up with early leader Darren Fahy of La Costa Canyon. This group included Richard Ho from Leland, who I’m sure was planning on reestablishing his claim to top CCS runner, an aspiration Aubrey had wrested from him two weeks previously. Aubrey flew by the first mile in 4:53
